Who is Jesus Christ ?

Who is Jesus?

All of us ask questions both to ourselves and others. While some are as simple as

“what will I have for breakfast today”? or “will it rain tomorrow”? Others are a bit more

complicated- “what should I do with my life”? “Why am I suffering”? “Does anyone

care about me”? “Is there hope in this world”?

But the greatest question that one could ever ask is – “Who is Jesus”? This particular

question is so crucial, because of the depth and magnitude of who Jesus is and what

He has done. It is highly important therefore that one gains a clear understanding of

Who Jesus is, for it is only then that we can deal rightly with everything else in our

lives, including our difficult questions.

The gospel according to John states the following, in the beginning was the Word

and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All things were made through

him, and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:1-3).

Everything that we see in the known universe was created by Jesus. He is

responsible for all that we see and enjoy around us. The mightiest mountains, the

deepest seas, the wide open meadows, the Grand Canyon, the sun moon and

endless stars embedded within countless galaxies, He created them. Before any

man or created entity, Jesus existed as the Word. Jesus (the Word) spoke all that we

see into existence (Genesis 1:1-31). The greatest creation of Jesus was – Man. We

are his brilliant workmanship, because we carry His image. The first 2 chapters in the

book of genesis, tells us that Jesus was busy creating a perfect world for man to

enjoy, rule and govern.

But sin crept into this perfect world, corrupting everything in it. Adam and Eve sinned

(disobeyed) against the creator leading them and us into pain, sickness, disease and

everything else that causes us to suffer in the world today. Therefore, to redeem

Man from his fallen condition, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John

2000 years ago, in the land of Bethlehem, Jesus Christ entered our world as a baby

for the sole purpose of redemption and salvation. He took on flesh and made his

dwelling among us to set us free from sin. Into the world that He had created, he

entered in order to save mankind. The bible mentions this great act of love for

mankind in the gospel of John- “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only

son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did

not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world

might be saved through him (John 3:16-17).

Everything that we suffer in our world today (pain, sorrow, loss, grief, sadness,

loneliness, and so much more), Jesus understands, because he has suffered all of

them himself. Although Jesus was the Son of God He was also fully man and thus

he fully understands or in other words, relates to human suffering. This is why Jesus

said, come to me all who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest

(Matthew 11:28). Jesus offers the gift of salvation to all those who are willing to

receive Him into their lives. The only way to eternal life is Jesus. He declared that “I

am the way, I am the truth, I am the Life. “To all who did receive him, who believed in

his name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12).

During His time on the earth, Jesus healed all who came to him. He set the captives

free and to those who needed healing in the body, He healed them. He came to

serve us and not to be served. His mission was to save the lost (all of us). The

creator of the universe loves us too much to see us suffer. “While we were yet

sinners Jesus Christ died for us” He gave up His life so that we might live and be set

free from the curse of sin and death. So deep was the love of God, that he sent His

son to die for mankind so that all might be saved through him.  He came into this

world, offered Himself as a sacrifice on our behalf so that we might inherit eternal

life. He rose from the dead and has promised that He will return to take with him all

those who believe in him.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus is able to redeem your

life and to set you free from sin, guilt, shame. No matter how terrible, or difficult or

unfair life has been, the love of Christ is more than enough to set you free. Jesus

Christ is closer than a brother and a friend to the lowly, the broken, the sick, the

hurting and the sinner. He transforms anybody who comes to Him. This

transformation is a wonderful experience, so wonderful, that you will never be the

same again.
